PLING PONG POCKET RACKET (2025)

AR-app that enables playing Pling Pong with your phone

You can now use your phone to play augmented table tennis with the app PLING PONG POCKET RACKET!

When hitting a ball with your phone, sounds and flashing lights will be triggered emphasizing the events of the game. Move the cat slider to adjust microphone sensitivity or temporarily all the way to the top to lock the previous sound, and the operation in reverse to unlock. Tap and hold two fingers on the screen to enable recording of your own sound effect. All you need, besides your phone racket, is a ball and a suitable playing surface!

Disclaimer: Samvær Under Tilsün Drift AS, the developer of this app, or anyone else associated with the app will not be liable for any damages of any kind related to the use of this app. You acknowledge, by the use of Pling Pong Pocket Racket, that your use of Pling Pong Pocket Racket is at your sole risk. FRITIDSKLUP (2023)

Exhibition at Nordnorsk Kunstnersenter

Samvær Under Tilsün tried to make Nordnorsk Kunstnersenter, an art center in Svolvær, Norway, into a self running club for playing augmented table tennis, eating popcorn and hanging out.

Petter Blix filmed the installation process and made it into a short documentary.

At the opening we held a tournament inviting a fine selection of local representatives and public servants.

For the exhibition we designed and manufactured 3000 3-star table tennis balls with two-colour tampographic print. The process was documented in the zine "TRE TUSEN BALLER 4 KONER & 7 FLAGG". Click the cover below to download it as pdf - it's a logistical thriller!

The 3-star balls were dropped from a hole in the ceiling at random intervals, gradually filling up the floor of the space.

Every pling pong game draws a set of animations, player sounds and music from an ever expanding library.

Nordnorsk Kunstnersenter tried to put this ad on www.kunstkritikk.no, but it was refused because of their no-gif policy which is ridiculous.

Instead local youth put up posters and the exhibition ended up with 1024 visitors, or close to 20% of the population of Svolvær.

An instructions manual was provided to the staff and the exhibition ran for two months without technical failures or downtime of any kind.
